The evidence for specific dietary protocols has been taken from the Canadian Cardiovascular Society 2021 guideline document on dyslipidemia (high cholesterol).

Outside of high cholesterol, the following table (taken from Appendix S4 of the guideline document) applies in situation where you do not need a dietary intervention to address a specific medical disorder, in which case you should consult with your healthcare provider and a licensed dietician prior to implementing a diet.

"major CV events" = heart attack or stroke, "LDL-C" = low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (calculated), "CVD" = cardiovascular disease, "CHD" = coronary heart disease, "CV mortality" = cardiovascular mortality, "TG" = triglycerides
